Outside of school hours care (oshc)

The Department of Education and Training (DET) is funding the Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) Demonstration Program in five schools in Victoria. Yarrabah School has been nominated to be part of the Demonstration Program. The OSHC Program began in Term 3 2018 as a pilot program addressing a gap in care services for children and young people with disability. It aims to:

  • Provide out of school hours (after school and school holidays) support to children and young people with disability
  • Support student achievement, wellbeing and engagement through educational programs and facilities
  • Provide a safe, structured environment for the children of working families.

The service is operated by TheirCare and is provided free of charge to families. After school care operates from 3pm to 6pm daily and school holiday programs operate from 8am to 6pm.

TheirCare provides a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment for all children and are committed to building relationships with the school community. During OSHC sessions, children develop life skills, friendships, confidence and creativity through play.

TheirCare programs include the following:

  • Activities based on the needs and interests on children
  • A variety of active and passive experiences
  • Activities planned to achieve learning experiences
  • Choice in what they would like to participate in
  • Craft, science, board games, construction, book corner, music and movement, sport and physical experiences
  • Incursions and excursions during holiday program
  • Outdoor activities
  • Implementation of themes
  • Regular cooking activities
